‘(Come in under the shadow of this red rock), And I will show you something different from either Your shadow at morning striding behind you Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you...’

The house is located in rural Spain, about 20 km inland from the Atlantic ocean.

It is composed of two cubes rotated relative to each other. This spatial operation results in eight facades facing the cardinal directions. The cantilever shelters the entrance and the courtyard. The building program follows the movement of the sun. Statically beneficial round openings perforate the concrete walls and roof while emphasizing the endlessly changing qualities of natural light. This primary building skin is complemented by a second layer of in situ concrete circular segments which express the essence of each room by forming different degrees of privacy and defining viewpoints. A sculptural staircase in the heart of the building allows the inhabitants to retreat in the more private upstairs area. The courtyard acts as a shadow play while carrying the load of the balcony.
